Join us on a day trip to learn about Portugal’s most tragic (and strange) love story, Pedro and Inês. A true tale of love, loss, murder and vengeance that proves truth is indeed stranger than fiction.
We will travel with Rui the Road Butler to the Mosteiro de Alcobaça (a UNESCO world heritage site) and explore their story with our guide on the trip there. Once we arrive we will visit their graves which are some of the best examples of late medieval sculpture, as well as many other Portuguese treasures.
There will be free time to explore the monastery and the surrounding town.
On the return to Porto, our guide Catherine will answer questions and talk about the political implications of these ill-fated lovers. In addition, we will explore how their story has been interpreted by subsequent generations.
Porto Kind’s very own history guru, Catherine taught medieval and Renaissance history for over 30 years. The more she learned, the more she came to realize that truth is always stranger than fiction. Join us and she will convince you that history really is your favorite subject. No essays, tests, or memorizing dates required!
