Founded in 1967, The Family Planning Association (APF) is a charitable social solidarity institution (IPSS) recognized nationally and internationally for developing projects with people in vulnerable situations, namely through its support work with victims of crime, with a particular focus on violence and human trafficking.
Since 2008, APF’s Northern Branch has managed a Shelter and Protection Center for Women Victims of Human Trafficking and their minor children. The Center aims to ensure safety, emotional stabilization, and the development of life projects that lead to the social, educational and professional (re)integration of the people they support.
APF also supports helping people make free and informed choices in their sexual and reproductive lives and to promote positive parenting. APF is the Portuguese member of the IPPF – International Planned Parenthood Federation, the federation that brings together family planning associations in almost every country in the world.
IPPF is a Private Institution of Social Solidarity (IPSS) with Health Purposes, recognized as a Non-Governmental Development Organization (ONGD) and as a Family Association, and also a Training Center accredited by the Directorate-General for Employment and Labor Relations (DGERT) and the Scientific-Pedagogical Council for Continuing Education (CCPFP).
