Step into the shadows of 1940s Portugal.
Picture this: You are sitting in the glamorous, smoke-filled lounge of the Hotel Palacio in Estoril. To your left, a British MI6 operative is sipping a martini. To your right, a German Abwehr officer is discreetly tapping code into a pocket watch. Out on the casino floor, millions are being gambled away, but the real currency in the room is secrets.
Portugal’s neutrality during World War II made it the espionage capital of the world. Portugal was a playground full of agents, double agents, code-breakers, war profiteers, and refugees just trying to survive. That British spy operative rubbing shoulders and drinking alongside the German agents? You know him as Ian Fleming, who wrote the outline for Casino Royale during his time in Portugal.
Join us on October 24 from 6-8 at Scoundrels Gin Distillery as we travel back to this most glamorous and dangerous time.
We will learn about this fascinating, fragile moment in world history as we sip specially formulated Tuxedo martinis, nosh on Bond Baos by the 4th Meal, enjoy smooth spy songs performed by our very own Bond girl, “Tam Talizing”, and measure how successful we would be as spies (with prizes for the sneakiest)!
