Animal Sanctuary and Herb Farm – June 30, 2026
Our trip to Quinta das Águias raised 800€ for Animais de Rua and the Animal Sanctuary!
We had an incredible day touring the farm and learning all about the work they do with rescued animals, plant and seed conservation and the sustainability practices of the farm. We enjoyed a delicious vegan meal prepared by our hosts and eaten under the beautiful trees with kitties, peacocks and Peppa pig!
Claudia and João from Animais de Rua educated us about the hard work they do for animals and their special connection to Quinta das Águias.

Quinta das Águias is a non profit organization located in a five hectare farm in Paredes de Coura in Northern Portugal.
An organic farm and animal refuge, it is a sustainability project where all forms of life and the natural resources that sustain life are treated with respect and where every effort is made to avoid harming or spoiling them.
It was established in 2004, as a family project for Ivone, Joep and Maria, who wished to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle, closer to nature.
Associação Quinta das Águias aims to develop projects in traditional plant and seed preservation, educational projects and an animal sanctuary, currently housing over 158 animals who have the chance to live their lives free from suffering.

We will leave the farm at 4:00 pm to return to Porto by approximately 6:00 pm.
Things to consider:
There is about a 10 minute walk on a cobblestone, sloped surface to and from where we will be parking the bus.
The farm is rugged and sturdy shoes are recommended. We will be walking on uneven terrain at times. Please let us know if you have questions.

The bus trip from Porto to the farm, welcome and presentation by Claudia from Animais de Rua and Quinta das Aguias, a vegan lunch prepared by our farm hosts and a post lunch guided tour and viewing of the animal sanctuary and herb farm.

As temperatures rise, Porto Kind has been made aware by Animais de Rua of an emergent need.
Street Dogs and Cats are highly stressed when trapped and transported in their cage/trap to the vet for sterilisation and/or treatment.
Animais de Rua use rented vans for transportation which unfortunately, do not have air conditioning in the section used to load the traps. Both cats and dogs rapidly overheat, and this is especially prevalent in hot summer temperatures and can result in life threatening heatstroke for the captured animals.
To mitigate this, Animais de Rua is in urgent need of a portable AC unit that can be used in a van, to ensure safe transportation for animals captured. They have found a unit for 437€.

After lunch we will split into 2 groups to tour and learn about the sanctuary and what makes Quinta das Águias so special.
